CILO Time – Wednesday June 20th, 2012

Today is our last CILO time of the 2011-12 school year. After a wonderful morning of Activity Day activities, wonderful barbecued hot dogs, and just plain fun, I am sure you will be able to put that time to fantastic use today!

Please feel free to use the time as needed. I know we are all crazy busy, so time is exactly what the doctor ordered. If you would like to use it for planning for next year, that would be fantastic. I know we have a zillion other things happening so make sure you use it for whatever is needed most urgently.

Please enjoy the time, share some great camaraderie, support each other, and let’s continue to develop those wonderful innovative learning opportunities for our students, whether it is for this year or next!

Have a stupendous CILO afternoon,

I, along with some lovely helpers, picked up the popcorn orders from Kernels for the fundraiser for Grade 6 Outdoor School in September. I developed an activity based around this fundraiser that the PLP class would complete. The activity includes counting, sorting, organizing, tallying and graphing the data, as well as counting money. It has been great to see the joy and growth of the students’ during this opportunity. They have expressed how they feel like leaders and great role models within the school community. So wonderful to see and hear!

Mike, Diana and I met to look at optimization of our complimentary courses (music and our new, fabulous learning commons role) through timetabling. A lot of time was spent ensuring that we scheduled time to allow deep, inquisitive work within our new learning commons setting for the 2012-2013 school year.

  3. Xavier says:

The Current Grade 4 Team looked at the Grade 5 Program of Studies with a calendar and started booking next year’s field trips. We started discussing essential questions for possible cross-curriculur projects.

    We missed Mike ;(

  4. Shannon Bale says:

The Grade 3 team looked at next year’s long range plans and are working on making it more theme (inquiry) based rather than unit based. We are brainstorming ideas of how that will look. We also briefly discussed our first few days with the students next year. We would like to arrange graffiti walls with the Circle of Courage titles on them in which students will place their examples or ideas on each pillar. We’d like to start the year reading “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss. We also are looking at some belonging theme picture books to read to our students on the first week of school.

    The Grade 5 team…and new grade 4 team…

Emily and Lisa discussed plans for next year, what the 1st week is going to look like, setting up the classroom environment, looked into possible field trips, looked at the grade 4 program of studies, and their plan for June 28/29th to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Jenny organized and planned the end of year curriculum letter written by students using the ‘Pages’ Program to include photos.

  6. Harjyote Shergill says:

The grade 2 team looked over our year plans, and decided to begin fall 2012 with Whoever You are by Mem Fox. It is a story that speaks about children all around the world. It speaks about friendships, similarities and differences, and teaches them to think about themselves, how they are the same/different from their peers, and what makes them special.

  7. Laura says:

Grade 1 Team: We worked on finishing up loose ends from various projects. We have also worked in our classrooms making our rooms more productive. We took down some art work for the end of the year portfolios that highlight work throughout Grade 1.
